US based distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS) are the nutrient rich co-product of dry-milled ethanol production. Its utilization as a feed ingredient is well documented as both an energy and a protein supplement. More than 200 ethanol plants dominate the countryside, particularly in their most concentrated area—the corn belt. These plants, possess the capacity to produce more than 14 billion gallons of ethanol and 30 million tons of DDGS. The Council has been instrumental in educating the global market on the nutritional benefit of DDGS. DDGS exports have exploded from 1 million tons in 2006 to more than 9 million tons in more than 45 countries in 2013.
